Wow. I just read this book to my son without knowing what it was about, and it’s the only book I started tearing up over while reading to him. Major props to Helena Ku for representing diverse stories first of all, and for paying tribute to our immigrant parents who worked difficult jobs so that their kids could lead better lives. Yes, the story we’ve all heard before and can never quite wrap our heads around. We need more stories like these, and we need more voices to speak up.
KoreanAmericanStory.org is one example of a nonprofit who works to preserve these stories. Make your story heard, in any artistic way you can. It’s important, and so are you.
